As skin therapists it’s how we start each and every skin treatment in our treatment rooms at the salon. It’s also how we start and finish each and every day in our bathrooms at home!
With our favourite dermalogica cleansers we can all get ultra-clean, healthy skin! And with a few professional tips along the way you will soon be like us and wonder how on earth do people NOT double cleanse?!
How do we do it?
With the dermalogica double cleanse routine. ALWAYS starting with PreCleanse which comes as an oil or a balm. Both suitable for all skin types but the balm being slightly more nourishing for drier/dehydrated skin and also perfect for travel.
Nothing compares to PreCleanse – Apply, work it in dry, emulsify with water and remove – my favourite way to remove at home is with our Konjac Sponge.

While double cleansing with your traditional cleanser may partially remove oil- based debris, the dermalogica double cleanse that begins with PreCleanse can penetrate layers of oily debris for complete removal, ensuring a more intense, more professional and more thorough level of clean.
Do you still need to use a cleanser?
Yes! PreCleanse dissolves and rinses away skin-clogging layers of oil and oil- based debris. This allows your dermalogica cleanser to penetrate even further for professional double cleanse results. All dermalogica cleansers are soap-free, and pH-balanced to protect the skin’s natural moisture barrier.
Why bother when wipes are an option?
The ‘w’ word – wipes. Not only are they terrible for the environment, they are terrible for the skin and just… NO!
What about soap?
If you thought wipes were bad for your face… don’t get us started on soap!!! On a scale from 1 to 14, a neutral pH is 7. The skin’s normal pH level is between a 4 and a 5 (acidic). The majority of soaps are made from alkaline ingredients that can reach in the opposite direction, all the way up to 14 on the pH scale. Using soaps that are high in alkalinity take skin from an acidic state to an alkaline state and strip natural lipids from our skin. This accounts for the tight, pulled feeling you may have experienced after cleansing with soap. While you may interpret this feeling as “cleanliness,” it is actually your skin suffering from a loss of lipids!
In the salon we really enjoy being able to customise the double cleanse routine. Not only with a number of professional strength products but with electricals too. The Ultrasonic Brush gives up to 6 times more cleansing power and adds mild exfoliation. You can do this at home and works best with a foaming cleanser.
Our Ultrasonic blade (not actually a blade!) uses therapeutic ultrasound and provides deeper cleansing with added exfoliation. We us these in all of our ProSkin Treatments.
For a quick, easy and powerful way to power up your cleansing at home, mix either ½ tsp of Daily Microfoliant® or ½ tsp of MultiVitamin Thermafoliant® into your cleanser and feel immediately polished and smooth. This is also a great way to introduce exfoliants into you rregime if you are worried your skin is super sensitive.
Below we’ve listed all dermalogica cleansers and who they are best for…
